3 Window Styles for Homes With Traditional Architecture

If you live in a historic home with a traditional style, preserving the architectural integrity of your home should always be a priority when it comes to investing in replacement windows. Renewal by Andersen® recommends the following window styles to help preserve your home’s architectural style:

Casement Windows

Casement windows open from the side hinges and are operated by a crank or lever. They are characteristic of several architectural styles like Mock Tudor and Prairie, but can be customized to fit any other architectural style. Grille selection is crucial, as Mock Tudor casement windows have a diagonal lattice pattern, while Prairie styles feature their own distinctive grille style.

Casement windows are also the second most energy-efficient window style after picture windows. Renewal by Andersen casement windows can be customized to complement any architectural style.

Bay and Bow Windows

Bay and bow windows are often associated with grand architectural styles like Shingle, Ranch, and Queen Anne. Bay windows comprise one large window with two smaller windows on each side that form a protruding bay. Bow windows are a combination of several equal-sized windows, forming a bow-shaped bay. There is no rule on the window style combinations for bay windows, but many homeowners favor the combination of a main picture window and two double hung or casement windows on the sides.

Double Hung Windows

No window style is as popular in America as double hung windows. This is also the most flexible style from a design perspective, as it can accommodate just about any grille. Renewal by Andersen double hung windows have the additional benefit of being easy to clean, courtesy of sashes that can be tilted for cleaning indoors.

Renewal by Andersen® of Central PA serves Harrisburg, PA, and nearby areas. To learn more about our traditional window styles, call us today at (717) 591-4900 or fill out our contact form for a free, no-obligation consultation.
