Ideas for Optimizing Your Window Walls

When you’re planning a window wall as part of your overhaul of replacement windows, consider using the lower wall-space to maximize functionality. Read on for some handy tips.

Storage Space

Similar to bay windows, the space under window walls can accommodate shelves or cabinets that you can use for storage. If you happen to have a lot of books, half-height shelves provide plenty of space to store your books, without compromising the view from the windows. This is especially effective if you have window walls that cover the length a hallway. You can also choose to have other types of storage depending on where the window wall is located, such as top-loading storage for a children’s playroom.

Home Office

Consider installing an integrated desk along your window wall. The increased natural light in the area is conducive to improving your productivity, and, if you have yard-facing windows, you’ll be able to keep an eye on your kids at play while you work. We recommend a dark-colored desktop to minimize glare and power outlets at desk level so you don’t have to bend over to plug in your laptop or mobile devices.

Lounge or Play Area

A couch or daybed installed along window walls creates a relaxing lounge area, perfect for reading, napping or simply enjoying some sunshine. Whatever you choose, you’ll be glad to know that our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass blocks harmful UV and infrared rays, which means you can enjoy as much sunlight as you want without worrying about its harmful effects. In fact, our High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun™ glass option can block up to 95% of UV rays without sacrificing clarity.
