All employees want to be part of a company that’s ranked as the “best”—a company that treats them well, motivates them towards continual success and makes ethical decisions. But how do you measure which companies are the best places to work?
Every year, Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Central Penn Business Journal partner together to hold the Best Places to Work in PA awards program. The program was created in 2000, and it’s one of the first statewide awards in the U.S. to measure employee satisfaction.
The program was created to honor businesses in Pennsylvania that not only provide employee opportunities and an exciting work environment, but benefit the state’s economy as well.
Renewal by Andersen of Central PA is one of the companies that was recognized as one of the 2013 Best Places to Work for in PA, due in large part to a survey given to all employees—a true testament to the genuine fulfillment employees receive from working here.
To participate in the awards program, a company had to be eligible in the following areas:
- Must be for-profit or not-for-profit
- Must be publicly or privately held
- Must have a facility in PA
- Must have a minimum of 25 employees working in PA
- Must be in business for at least a year
After meeting these eligibility requirements, judges moved on to the two-part evaluation process that determined their overall score. The first part was worth about 25%, and it included an evaluation of our workplace policies, philosophies, systems and demographics.
The second part is arguably one of the most enlightening—it consisted of an employee survey that measured the “employee experience.” This part was worth about 75% of the total score and allowed every employee to voice their honest opinions about working for RBA. The two scores were combined and determined which companies ranked as the best places to work.
The Best Places to Work in PA awards ceremony will be held at the Lancaster County Convention Center on Thursday, December 5th. Renewal by Anderson of Central PA will be recognized and our ranking will, for the first time, be made public!
