Window Styles for a Well-Ventilated Home

If you’re in the market for replacement windows, you have many factors to consider: aesthetics, energy efficiency, window style, and, last but not least, ventilation. When it comes to maximizing ventilation, not all windows are created equal.

Here are the window styles that give you the most control over the amount of ventilation in your home:

Sliding Windows

Sliding windows move through a sliding track, making them easy to operate. This window type is a space-saver because it doesn’t swing inward or outward. Aesthetically, sliding windows are perfect for homes featuring modern design and glass walls. We recommend adding sliding windows to hallways and parts of the kitchen that need ventilation the most. You can also install sliding windows in your bathroom, but make sure they are covered by a suitable window treatment to provide plenty of privacy.

Casement Windows

You see casement windows in hard-to-reach places because they swing in one direction, like a door. That makes these windows a great option for hallways, where the open windows will not limit movement. These can also be installed in hard-to-reach places like on top of kitchen cabinets or at their level if space permits.

Awning Windows

We recommend awning windows for the facade of the house. Keep the design symmetrical by adding the same number of windows on either side of the door. Awning windows are energy-efficient because they let in a good amount of ventilation, but they can also be sealed shut with a lock mechanism.

Double Hung Windows

Double hung windows provide excellent ventilation; you to move the top and bottom sash, so you can control how much air enters the home. You can also lock the sashes in their track and cover them with curtains or blinds at night so that no one can see through your windows. Double hung windows are ideal for easy-to-reach spaces, such as your kitchen backsplash or between counters.
